This morning I sit in wonder … my brother Dave (2 years and 18 days younger than me): my friend, my playmate, my confidant – we walked down the aisle together answering the call to Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior at a crusade held in 1st Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana when Billy Graham called for those wanting to give their lives to be in the Kingdom of God for eternity.
On February 17, 2011, my boss, Dave left this world answering the clarion call to take his life as a remedy for the 4th stage CTE symptoms that ailed him. Loss to me … Gain to Him! He has crossed over into death yet eternal life. Grief I cannot describe! Yet he left a message that his brain be sent to the NFL Brain Bank at Boston University for study.
What did he know? How could he be so sure? That text put into motion efforts by the NFL that continue to this day. Efforts to “Protect Youth Brains”. Oh, how I miss him!
He was my medical Power of Attorney and saw me admit myself to the locked psych ward 18 times in 23 years for treatment for ever increasing symptoms that have plagued me since I suffered a concussion playing basketball for IUPUI at age 18 (I am now 58 years old). I was paralyzed on the left side for over 6 months as a result of the concussion. I have been treated for numerous neurological and psychological diseases for 40 years.
