What Is The Concussion Protocol For High School Athletes?

Rules concerning concussions of high school athletes in Pennsylvania have been in place for more than a decade. There are also protocols for return to play after being diagnosed with a concussion, and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association has mandated schools to educate those involved in sports about concussions.

But the onus of concussion awareness in a contest or practice often still falls initially on two people: the coach and the athlete.

You’ll see athletic trainers and doctors on the sidelines of high school football games in Pennsylvania. But school districts have a multitude of contests and practices in various sports at a number of different levels, such as junior high or middle school. There is not a trainer on site at most practices and even games.
