Zach Redder was a standout linebacker for the Indian River Warriors…
“I was football driven ever since I was a young kid,” the high school senior said.
By his sophomore year, he helped Indian River win its first state championship in 2014.
“Flying around, you were your own man pretty much — it was just you and you were a free player,” he said. “I got the nickname ‘the bull’ from a lot of my teammates because I would run over people.”
Football was more than an after-school activity for Zach. He trained almost every hot, summer day in his backyard.

Zach thought football would help him in his next stage in life.
“I always had the mentality if I’m going anywhere to college, it’s going to be because of my athleticism, it’s not going to be because of my academics,” he said.
“He realized he had a gift and he loved playing linebacker, he loved making those tackles,” said his mother, Rhonda Redder. “He felt that he had (NCAA) Division I potential.”
Before his senior season, Zach visited the University of Tennessee, a football powerhouse and worked out as a long snapper at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
But back at Indian River, on August 17, 2016, just the third day of practice, Zach’s football dreams took a huge blow.
